When coming to the UK you should be prepared to spend 2-3 weeks looking for a professional job. If you're coming to the UK on a HSMP it's even more important to get the right job that pays enough for renewals. You should get some work done on your CV to ensure it performs for the UK market. It's also a good idea to get in touch with relevant companies for your specific job sector before you arrive.
It's relatively easy for Australians to get to the UK , with fewer language and cultural barriers Aussies should have no trouble finding the right jobs. One thing to keep in mind is choosing the right company to help set you up in the UK especially if contracting. Contract employment is a quickly growing method of work for many international new arrivals. You should book short term accommodation for your initial arrival and then look for something more permanent after you've found a suitable job and depending on where it is. London is a large city and you might even want to work in other cities across the UK .
